The Future of Background Checks and Compliance with AI

In our last post, we shared how Deploi’s tech foundations are evolving to support rapid growth, horizontally (serving more clients) and vertically (entering new industries). That scale demands more than infrastructure. It demands smarter, AI-driven systems that can support rapid background checks and compliance workflows.

As we look ahead, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is part of our strategy, but not in the way you might expect.

More Than Chatbots

In most tools, AI stops at a chatbot. We’re going further.

With deep, in-house knowledge of BS7858 and the full background checking process, we’re building intelligence into the areas that matter most to our clients: streamlining candidate vetting and accelerating compliant background checks. Ultimately so people get to work sooner.

This isn’t AI for novelty, it’s AI with purpose. We're focused on impact: faster verification, fewer errors, and shorter hiring cycles. That’s the goal behind our Activity History project, where we’re training systems to extract and cross-check data from documents like bank statements and references, so candidates aren’t held up by manual checks.

Because we built the platform ourselves, we’re not retrofitting AI into someone else’s product. We’re designing it directly into the processes we know best.

Building With Purpose

Our AI strategy is part of a broader shift toward stronger foundations and scalable, consistent development.

We’re restructuring our data architecture and standardising our codebase to lay the foundtions for intelligent features that are reliable by design.

That means intelligent systems that can validate address histories, flag incomplete records, and ensure documentation meets strict compliance standards. Reducing the time between “job offer” and “first shift”, without human intervention.

And yes, that benefits graduates, jobseekers, and returning workers; the people ready to contribute but often slowed down by outdated systems. We’re building a faster, fairer path for them.

Responsible by Default

Everything we build is compliance-first. That applies to AI too.

We’re not interested in black-box decisions. Our approach is transparent, explainable, and fully auditable. It is also aligned with UK data protection laws and industry-specific compliance requirements like BS7858.

As AI becomes more integrated, clients can expect better signal, less noise, and no loss of control.

What’s Next?

We’re currently focused on automating one of the slowest parts of background screening: verifying Activity History using AI-powered document recognition.

Candidates use this to list employment gaps, study periods, or time abroad. Verifying it with supporting documents is often manual and time-consuming. We’re now training our system to extract and validate structured data from standard document types.

It’s early days but you’ll feel it soon in faster onboarding, smarter prompts, and clearer insights. Because at the end of the day, that’s what AI should do: help the right people get into the right jobs, faster.
